    Leak at T & P: pressure tank or T & P, how to diagnose?

Another quick question: if I release air form the expansion tank (to test it and see if I'm getting air vs. water), in theory I should replace that air with more (compressed) air. To what PSI should I re-inflate that expansion tank to? I suppose measuring its current pressure and using that...

    Leak at T & P: pressure tank or T & P, how to diagnose?

If I'm understanding correctly, a really simple first test might be to just see if the Schrader valve releases air or water. If it's air, it's likely ok. If it's water, then I can skip the PRV valve.

    Leak at T & P: pressure tank or T & P, how to diagnose?

I've had this happen before: I notice water leaking from the T & P valve. I try "flushing" the TP valve a few times thinking maybe it's just some mineral buildup (and I do know they do 'wear out' after time). Doesn't help, so I replace the TP valve - no big deal. Except....it doesn't fix the...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

Tankless hot water heaters provide endless amounts of hot water. I don't understand your point. The issue I'm having of insufficient flow is simply due to insufficient BTU's. 110k isn't a very large boiler, and I was aware it may be marginal, and it is. Had I gone with a 150k I would not...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

Update: Tried closing down the supply to the domestic side of the combi boiler and it seems to have done the job. The boiler is able to continuously provide water via the tub spout at 123F (the setpoint). Its probably not ideal, as its very sensitive and I'm a little concerned about the...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

I talked to my 'boiler guy' (the installer, very competent w/ decades of experience) and he said that restricting the inlet valve should not be a problem. Obviously that would be the place to start. The issue may be that the remaining (lower flow) faucets like sinks could end up being scalding...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

Hi Wayne, I hadn't thought of restricting water at the boiler -- that might work with a whole lot less time/effort. Unfortunately there isn't an output on the hot water output side. There is a ball valve on the cold water input side. Do you think there would be any danger in 'starving' the...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

I think I understand what you are saying, and I believe the goal here is to just reduce the hot water GPM that the tub spigot is able to call for. If I put a valve in the hot water line that supplies the mixing valve, that will reduce the GPM that the boiler has to produce, won't it? My...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

Thanks for the reply. This is not an ideal situation, as the home is no longer under construction and everything is finished. I plan to access the plumbing from the back side (bedroom) through the drywall. I do plan to bury the valve, though in theory it could be accessed again if needed...

Restricting flow - hot and cold both?

Hi all - We have a Lochinvar 110k combi-boiler that is unable to provide enough BTU's to supply our bath spout. It does fine through the shower, which is how we've been filling our tub (obviously not ideal). From what I understand, I need to restrict the flow rate supplied to the mixing valve...

Just need to find out the diameter....hoping its standard PVC dimensions.

    Reducing intake/exhaust sound outside home

Will look at the end to see if I can just stick an elbow and aim the sound up. That seems to be a good starting point. But regarding your other statement regarding turbulence by pulling gases THROUGH a mesh: If I understood correctly, the gases wouldn't, in any significant amount, actually go...

Dimmer switches and flickering SATCO flush mount LED's

Hi everyone - I'm losing my mind trying to fix this flickering issue with a room full of Satco flush mount 5" LED's. They're the 5" version of these: Satco link I've tried 3 dimmers now -- all of them on the 'compatible' list. All of them flicker to some degree. I can usually find a light...

    Reducing intake/exhaust sound outside home

Could I put a 90 on the exhaust (center of the concentric vent) and accomplish the same thing without re-routing (and the subsequent siding/wall fixes)? I'd need to get up on a ladder and see about that but I don't see any immediate reason why not. Currently it vents directly out --...

    Reducing intake/exhaust sound outside home

Hi all - I've got a 110k BTU Lochinvar combi-boiler installed in garage. It vents via (2) 3" PVC pipes which combine into a concentric vent pipe that penetrates the wall. The unit is significantly louder than I had hoped, and part of the issues is just site-location (i.e. my neighbors bedroom...

Help replacing a (Moen?) shower valve/trim/knob

Hi all - I was told this was the place to come for my little issue. I recently noticed that the shower knob had somehow become reversed (either that or I've totally lost my marbles). I.e. turn to the left (counterclockwise) used to be hot, now turn to the left is cold! (and of course...
