How to remove this balance spool from Am. Standard valve?

Ok… so now what? Lol Got the cap off (with a little innovation) but this body of the balance spool is really stuck in there. Not a lot of room to get a tool on there to grip and yank it out. Any thoughts? I’m trying to spray and soak with vinegar.

How to remove this balance spool from Am. Standard valve?

Yeah I just cant get on it the way Id like because it is behind some tile. I tried locking onto it head-on or perpendicular with some vice grips and that was a mistake. It slipped off and the soft brass was gummed up a bit so I stopped. Here is its position for reference

How to remove this balance spool from Am. Standard valve?

Can anyone give my the secret to how to get this piece removed? Any special tool/wide flat head that works? I've read people "soaking it" in a vinegar solution but not sure how I'd do this if it is attached within a wall. Thanks

Tips on how to remove this stubborn Balance Spool?

My old American Standard valve is not allowing us to get hot water. I’ve tried taking out the check stops and flushing the valve. I’ve replaced the cartridge. I have adjusted the scald limit. The only thing I can think of from troubleshooting is the valve and this balance spool but I can’t...

Replacing 1/2” subfloor in bathroom with 3/4”

Ripping out our old shower pan, I noticed that the old subfloor is 1/2. I want to replace it with 3/4”. Do I cut to the bottom plate as close as possible and just lay the new 3/4” down? Obviously I can’t replace the existing 1/2 that the plate is on top of. Will the structural integrity become...

How would you convert this old copper shower drain to PVC?

Yeah I considered that as well, as shown in this picture. It may get a little tight as the new 2" PVC is more bulky but I need center to be at that red dot. Would that shielded coupling work if I cut into that 45 deg joint before it heads into the joist? Or do they just fit over the old copper...

    Stud in the way!

I want to put my new shower valve on this wall and center it with the drain but there is a pesky stud in the way. Wondering if I can take this stud out completely if I put in another stud several inches over. It is a load bearing wall I am assuming (perpendicular to the joists, double top plate...

Converting old copper/iron drain to PVC in shower remodel

Hi Wayne, Sorry for this potentially ridiculous question lol. Is above and below grade referring to ground level or just my floor level? This is on an upstairs remodel and of course will be under the subfloor so not sure if that is considered above grade or below grade?

Converting old copper/iron drain to PVC in shower remodel

Thank you. Is the difference between this and a regular Fernco coupling just the rigidity it provides?

Converting old copper/iron drain to PVC in shower remodel

I am about to rip out our old 1968 master bathroom shower to the studs and remodel. I am concerned that after I get the pan out and have access to the old pipes, once I cut the old P trap out, how do I go about transitioning this to plastic for my new shower drain? I have heard of mission...

Gurgling sound in my sink when I flush

I'll give this a shot today. I can safely access this pipe. How much water would you recommend pouring down there? Safe to bet just a pot of warm water?

Gurgling sound in my sink when I flush

We have gotten quite a few snow/ice storms recently so this could be the issue. I never thought of this or knew that could be a problem since it hasnt happened in the past. But yes, I can access this pipe. They combine, travel through my garage attic and out the garage roof so I can get up there...

Gurgling sound in my sink when I flush

We are on a city sewer system. Would the blockage be through the vent? Possibly something in the portion that sticks out of my house? Or do you mean blockage as in through the sewer pipes?

Gurgling sound in my sink when I flush

Recently, I have noticed that my 1st floor half bath toilet will get quite "gurgly" when flushing. A few days ago, the sound has now been coming through the sink whenever we flush. It doesnt always come through the sink; I'd say maybe 50/50 sink and toilet. But, whenever we flush, there is a...

PVC to copper joint needs sealed

So I have this issue under my Kitchen sink where the new PVC pipe attaching to the old copper stub out is leaking. This is a non-threaded joint so i was a little worried about this when I put it together. my question is, how do I seal this joint to stop the leaking? Would a PVC glue work? Pipe...

Bypassing a Vent Away system on a wall hung toilet

I have a toilet that recently declined in its flushing power so I decided to purchase a Flushmaster universal replacement kit and replace the guts to our toilet. The problem however is that this particular toilet is an old American Standard 4049 Vent Away so there is the extra vent hole at the...
