    Valve type?

Tapped it with a screwdriver, it's metal. Too smooth to be black pipe though. Just not sure how it's attached to the fitting, I can see no threads so I don't think it's threaded on. Maybe soldered but no telltale signs of solder. Wondering if it's silver soldered on.

House shut off valve packing nut cracked

My nephew had a slow leak at the house shut off valve. A coworker told him to tighten the packing nut to stop the leak. He used a little to much muscle and cracked the nut. Can we keep the valve closed, remove the knob, and replace the the packing and packing nut without shutting the water off...

    Bow vent?

Can anyone explain the PVC in this photo? As you can see, the closet flange is not centered on either leg. Plus the closet flange is angled to intercept the cast iron stack with, I suspect, a wye under the concrete floor. Someone suggested a bow vent or possibily a set up for a future bath...

    Expansion tank due replacement

One of my neighbors has replaced his twice in 25 years. His dielectric union is so corroded his just unscrews the tank from the bottom of the union. Pokes a small screwdriver to clean out the crude, flushes by turning the whole house water back on for a few seconds into a bucket, then screws on...

    Expansion tank due replacement

Thought about trying to tighten a little but it's been there for 10+ years. Afraid it's corroded in place and a little tighting might cause a bigger problem. Also concerned about the dissimilar metal corrosion, hoping the brass valve might improve the situation. It has been fine up until about 2...

    Expansion tank due replacement

The leak appears the be on top at the connection between the male tank fitting and the female copper fitting. Not sure if there's water in the tank, but no leak at the air charge port.

    Expansion tank due replacement

I have an expansion tank needing replacement, pressure relief valve on WH spits out water when heater reheats after a shower. Expansion tank is screwed directly to a copper fitting (No dielectric) and has signs of a small leek. What's the best way to install a new tank? 6" brass nipple and...

No water from Kohler Rite-Temp Valve

Called Kohler, they are sending a new PBU and mixing valve, wonderful people, stand behind they're warranty. After the phone call (and work) I decided to try something new. I removed the PBU, reinstalled the mixing valve and turned the water supply on. Still no joy. Removed the mixing valve...

No water from Kohler Rite-Temp Valve

No water from Kohler Rite-Temp Valve

Both hot and cold every time. Tried turning them at the same time on while the shower valve was open at mid point for equal pressurization to both hot and cold. Do the water lines need to be purged? After taking the valve apart all the water is drained out of the lines so some air is trapped...

No water from Kohler Rite-Temp Valve

Another quick question. Is it possible to put the pressure balancing unit in backwards or upside down? I removed it when I sweated the copper in but may have reinstalled the pressure balancing unit wrong. I was careful when I reinstalled it this morning and put it back together the way it came...

No water from Kohler Rite-Temp Valve

Bought valve 10 years ago, installed 5 years ago and leaked checked, no leaks. Did not flow check as the shower was rough-in and didn't want to make a mess. Finished the shower and tried to flush the lines before installing shower head. No water comes past the valve. Turned water off, removed...
