Just finished a rough in for a laundry tray. I was attaching the included p trap assembly to my drain stub out and noticed the sink piping doesn’t fit into my stub out hole. The inside diameter of the PVC threaded slip I have is too small it seems, even though the thread portion is fit for 1.5”. I can thread the cap piece on, but with no effort I can just pull the pipe back out. Will I have to tear this fitting out? I was thinking I could jimmy some other PVC fittings on that thread piece to save it, but not sure how. Any thoughts? Thank you!

You got the wrong PVC fitting.
1. Special transition cement only, if you want to combine PVC with ABS. Best practice is to use matching material.
2. You do not have a "trap adapter" fitting in PVC. likely you have a pressure PVC fitting.
Get yourself a ABS trap adapter...or even any ABS drainage, male adapter.

It may just be the picture, but that tee fitting looks like it is NOT a "sanitary tee", which is what the plumbing code requires there.

The other concerning issue is the reduction in size of the pipe BELOW the tee - you can't reduce the pipe size leading "out", you can only increase it.

Can you stand the trap arm being higher?

You could screw a pvc spigot FIPT adapter on that male thread that is at the wood.

https://www.pvcfittingsonline.com/1-1-2-sch-40-pvc-sr-female-adapter-soc-x-sr-fipt-435-015sr.html is the more-expensive reinforced adapter.

On top of that, you would glue an all hub 1.5x1.5x1.5 trap adapter. Into the side port, you would glue a spigot trap adapter, and into the top port, you would glue a short piece of PVC pipe.

When that is in place, you would insert a piece of PVC pipe using a pair of shielded couplers.

Yes, this raises your trap arm a couple inches, and I hope you can put up with that.

Yeah... wait.. hold on here.. This looks like somewhat new construction on top of an old foundation. What is the pipe that is buried behind the bottom plate? Is that even DWV sized pipe? Looks like 1" PVC with a bushing to attach ABS vent tee...

Is that pipe in the bottom plate even a drain?

You're right about that. It does look like a 1" or 1.5" at best.

How high is the vent pipe? If it is one.
