Good afternoon everyone. I'm new here and my name is Chris. I've replaced cartridges before on my moms Delta Monitor and done other light plumbing work but have never ran into this. At my condo I was experiencing hot water cross over to what I was hoping was just the cartridge. I removed the brass nut holding it in place and no one had one available and the plumbing supply wasn't opening until monday so I reinstalled the old one. Flash forward to today and I went to remove it again and head to a plumbing supply. Big mistake. This time removing the brass nut removed the entire assembly behind the cartridge and it was all disintegrating plastic and rubber seals. PLUS the plumbing supply stores won't open til Monday because of Thanksgiving. I thought they would still have been open. Going to attach a few pics of what is left and before and after. Please advise. I'm really hoping I don't need to cut out this tile and replace the whole faucet!! Thank you all in advance

By now, you've probably scrambled to hardware stores by now to see if you can find a match. But, the crossover problem is the black balancing spool, not the cartridge.

I originally thought I had an American Standard shower valve but from my online research it appears to be a Gerber Safetemp II and I will be purchasing both the control cartridge and the pressure balancing cartridge. Hopefully this fixes my problem and we can find a plumbing supply locally that has this!! Thank you

Have you tried to snap the balance cartridge back together. If you can it may work again for bit of time. Be sure you bring the photos to the plumbing supply house. Most places sell both cartridges as a kit.

I have even soaked it in vinegar to try to clean the pieces that weren't broken and the damaged seals but no dice this time. Luckily I'm going out of town for about 10 days Monday so if a local plumbing supply store doesn't have it, I'll just order it online and it would arrive by my return. I'm really hoping the local guys have it as I like supporting small mom and pop type businesses.
