Hi all . New to the forum . I have a pump sizing question . I got a great deal or so I think on a new Gould’s 1hp 10 gpm pump . I have a well drilled at 200’ I plan to set the pump at 180’ the static water is at 140’ . The well produces 20 gpm . The well sits about 10’ above the future house pad and 200’ away . I was planning to run a CSV . Before I drop the pump I wanted some advice on if the pump size is larger enough . House will be a 2 bed 2 bath retirement home for my wife and I . Maybe a small garden and very little grass . Any comments are much appreciated .

From that depth a 10 GPM, 1HP will pump about 12 GPM at 50 PSI. That is enough water for 2-3 houses. The irrigation is probably your largest demand. As long as you can water what you want with 10-12 GPM it should be fine. That would mean running 3-5 sprinklers at a time.

Thanks for the quick response . After looking and pump curve charts and attempting to work the formulas I thought I had made a choice that would work but was a little Leary after looking at my current set up at another home . Pump set at 130’ Gould’s 1.5hp 15gpm with a well rate of 18 gym . This puts my mind at ease . How do you guys feel about CSV’s any real pump damage or is that just hearsay . Thanks again .

OMG! No no no a CSV does not damage but instead makes pumps last longer. It is not hearsay. It is BS. My work straightening out misunderstandings (lies) pump guys are passing off about pumps and CSVs will never be done.

3/4 HP 7 GPM would probably be a better match for most houses.

Few homes with a metering softener will record actual peak usage of more than 7 gpm.
