I had a grapefruit tree root grow into the main bubbler supply line. I have turned the irrigation off, cut the flexible 700O.D. supply line and I cut the root as well. The root did not crawl all the way to the control valve I believe because the valve still closed properly.

I tried to extract the root with a pair of pliers but it was pretty jammed in there. I didn't want to keep trying because it is my only way of grabbing the root since the remainder of the pipe travels underground.

Is it reasonable to think that if I give the severed root a week or two that it will shrink and be easier to extract?
