Greetings again,

I recently had to remove a vanity and the p-trap along with it. I have also removed the 90 degree 2 inch hub to hub elbow that was my "stub" at the wall.

I have posted a picture with what I have left.

I am trying to install a new p-trap of course and it is 1 1/2 inch.

What is the simplest way going from that 2 inch drain in my wall to the 1 1/2 inch p trap?

If it matters-this is and Ikea vanity and plumbing p-trap and I realize that is not standard especially prior to the p-trap section.

I saw a picture Terry posted before and to my untrained eye it looked like he used some kind of trap adapter fitting to go from 2" right to the 1 1/2" p-trap.

My non expert thinking was as follows:

Cement a 2" 90 degree street elbow to be my "stub" out of the wall.

Cement a 2" to 1 1/2" reducer onto the street side of the elbow

Cement a 1 1/2" trap adapter into the reducer

Saw to length the p-trap section heading into the wall

Insert end of p-trap into trap adapter and tighten the plastic nut

I have posted a picture of this dry fitted also.

I had also considered doing another 90 degree turn at the "stub" to accommodate the Ikea plumbing if needed. Is that advisable?

Also the guy at HD said that I did not need a compression gasket with the trap adapter, and it is built in to the adapter itself where the nut tightens. Does that sound right?

Please let me know what he simplest/best way would be.

Thanks so much.

What you have there works.
If it's the Ikea with the "slide in" drawer, you may need to turn things so that the p-trap is parallel to the wall. That drawer goes back quite a ways.

Awesome. This vanity has a shelf so I still may have to rotate the trap "behind" the stub. Is that alright to do?

Is there any better way to connect everything that I am missing?

How about that p-trap adapter not needing a gasket?

Thanks much Terry.

A 2 x 1 1/2" elbow and a spigot trap adapter, or a 2" 90 with a bushing, or a 1 1/2" street 90 into a reducing coupling in the wall, will take the least space.

Where would I find pieces like the 2 x 1 1/2 elbow? I did not see anything like that at HD.

Thanks

Ikea will give you everything you need that is Ikea proprietary.

The rest comes from Lesso/Nibco.

There are 2 ways Ikea vanitys install, it depends where the rough is in the wall to it: either like you see in #4, or this here:

Thanks everyone for the help.

Also, where can I find a way to extend my water supply lines? The lines are attached internally to the faucet and are a little shorter than I need.

Do they have an extender I could get at HD or someplace similar?

Thanks so much

Your're not missing by much.
Fluidmaster B8F16 would work. One end goes to the shutoff, the other to the faucet connectors.

Or you can pick up a 1/2" MIP x 3/8" compression and mate that with a standard 3/8" x 1/2 FIP lav connector.

I think I found what I needed. It is a 12" long 3/8" - 3/8" line with one end male one end female.

My water supply lines are built into the faucet unfortunately so I can't connect one of my own to them. Its one of those Ikea faucets.

I have one more question about this drain I am installing.

Should I make it "level" or tilt it slightly towards the way the water will flow down the drain?

I have attached a photo of what I mean-I can pivot my assembly in any direction when I go to pvc cement it in place on the drain pipe in the wall.

Thanks again

Slight tilt is best, and what you should have. 1/4 inch drop per foot is ideal.

Ok great.

Another quick thing before I do this: there are small gaps in my assembled elbow where I could not get the PVC to seat all he way.

Is that problem-do they need to go all the way in? (See photos)

Thanks
