Searched forum and couldnt find anything about it.

My question is would you use 50/50 solder instead of 95/5 for plumbing water lines.
Friend is throwing out a couple of rolls and asked if I wanted it.
As I'm not to familiar with 50/50, ive used 95/5.
What are the benefits if any of using 50/50?
Is it worth it?

No, never. Good way to poison you and your family. Has not been allowed on potable water lines for over 20 years. There are uses for 50/50 solder, potable water is not one of them.

The benefit of 50/50 is a much lower melting point. The problem with it is it is 50% lead.

Properly applied there is very little danger from using 50/50 solder but that said, it's illegal

Have you considered working with stained glass? That involves soldering little channels that go around the pieces of glass.

If you believe the government, kids are chewing leaded paint off windowsills, so it must taste good. Right?

We need something to Blame why our child is a Nut Case, and has nothing to eat. People jump at the first chance to sue.

I got lead in my pencil.

give it to a tin knocker, we love it! we normally use 1/4 x 1/4 " rods for soldering architectural SM but we run into uses for the wire. Heck, we still use lead sheets to fab flashings for Spanish Tile roofs.
