Replacing plastic dip tube, almost no clearance

getting at the copper coming in the top is no problem. the problem is being an indirect tank I also have 2 pipes coming out the back that I have no way to get to. the problem is the water heater is in a corner with the boiler next to it. The tank must have been installed before the...

Replacing plastic dip tube, almost no clearance

Any good way to change a plastic diptube when you have maybe 1 foot clearance over the water heater? I have a indirect tank that has been in service a few years. The mixing valve failed and I didnt like the fact that he original plumber ran some of the pipes so I tried to clean some stuff...

Would you use type L in a boiler/DHW indirect loop

Back in the day when copper was cheaper I would always do everything with type L. With copper prices so crazy I have been rethinking things. But for things like boiler loops I always have stuck with the L. I have a job now where the boiler primary loop is done.. did that with type L. I...

PVC into case iron hub - fitting?

My current stack is PVC except for the section in the basement. Currently it is tied together by a fernco. I need to add another wye in the basement and figured I would replace this section with pvc since what I have is a bunch of cast iron wyes that all transistion to pvc anyway. I beleive...

Noobie with question on system design...

the advantage of running the home runs in 3/8" pex(for sinks), 1/2" for showers/tubs is time to deliver the hot water. I have another post on here where I did some calculations for the time it would hot water to get to a bathroom I was putting in. I am doing a multihead shower that could...

Noobie with question on system design...

In the past I have used regular pex for water.. I am doing a radiant floor project now and for the floor they sold me pex-al-pex. However I think that mas more to do with the fact that pex al pex is air/gas tight. You want that when you are recirculating the same water. But for regular...

Connecting new bathroom to existing stack

I will try and put together a picture a little later. The horizonal is actually the drain for the toilet to reach the main stack. I measured it today, toilet is about 7' away from the main stack. So at a 1/4" per foot that is 2" of pitch as a go across the soffit. I have plenty of room...

Connecting new bathroom to existing stack

I just wanted to follow up and see if anyone had any comments on this. If I were to tie in to the main stack with a second floor bathroom, can I tie in above the level of the 1st floor bathroom or would I need to go down with a new pipe and get below the level of the 1st floor basement?

Connecting new bathroom to existing stack

I have a ranch house with 1 bathroom. 3" main stack passes about 8-9 feet away from the toilet in the new bathroom. Is there any reason that I can't wye off that stack(above the height of the old bathroom) and go horizontal in a ceiling soffit on first floor and pick up the new drain...

Enough Venting? - 3d models attached

Herk, those comments were very helpful. yes this is an addition over finished space. the bathroom walls dont line up with any walls below so I need to travel some distance to find a place I can go vertical. I was looking at it again today and I could add an additional wye before the tub...

that makes sense... duh... do those branches need to be 2" or would 1 1/2 work? looking at my current tub it is 1 1/2 inches.

Enough Venting? - 3d models attached

One other concern i have is that the vertical drain pipe is going down a 2"x4" wall.. Since the wall is 2"x4" the 3" pipe will just fit and my 90 fitting will have to start above the top plate of the wall. The joists are 9 1/2" inches high. Is 9 1/2 inches high enough to stick a 90 on one...

Enough Venting? - 3d models attached

I am looking to set up the bathroom as pictured below. Normally I would run a nice big stack up one of the side/interior walls of the bathroom and tie in to that. However in this bathroom there are heavy duty beams on each side of the bathroom supporting the bathroom side walls. The only...
