    Filtration - DI water

Thanks. I'm leaning towards keeping what I got. I think it is cheaper in the long run and it's on wheels so I can move it around the house to clean the windows. I found out the rental tank my friend has is 300lbs. so window washing would be a bit more challenging.

    Filtration - DI water

Less water softener related and more water quality - best forum here to place this it seems, but mods please move if necessary. I've had a spotless water system for car washing for a decade. I've been buying resin by the cu. f.t and replacing as necessary - last bag I bought was Jan 2020 and it...

    Rachio flow meter installation

No, just my own curiosity and data collection. I have the Rachio 3 sprinkler controller and the wireless meter is something they offered and is still available. It will use it to know how much water flowed to that area during waterings. Thanks for the info!

    Upgrading home water treatment

Thanks for the replies so far. The house is 10yr old. Plumbing is all PEX aside from a bit of copper at the pressure regulator and softener. I assume it is iron as areas below the showered where it may drip a bit post use have a red tinge to it.

    Upgrading home water treatment

I'm debating on upgrading my home water treatment. Currently have a water softener and a Centaur Catalytic Carbon for chloramine reduction with 2x 5810s. I am considering a whole home filter as the city water seems to have high iron or other mineral content leaving red stains in the shower and...

    Rachio flow meter installation

My bill says the meter size is 5/8" and irrigation is 1 1/4" PVC to the 7 sprinkler valves. I'm guessing the flow meter is physically only 1" in diameter which is why 1" is the top end. My main concern is the backyard as it uses 8 Rainbird rotors for the grass and these need pressure to spray...

    Rachio flow meter installation

I'm debating installing a Rachio flow meter. Instructions below. https://support.rachio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002282073-Rachio-Wireless-Flow-Meter-Quick-Start-Guide- My irrigation pipe before all the valves is 1 1/4". Would downsizing to 1" to install the loop for the flow meter cause...

DIY project - drain tank for ice maker

Thanks for the ideas. I should have clarified in the original post this isn't something permanently set up, it's only for the weekly/bi weekly maintenance so it should be easily storable. Video of the "official" drain kit: I like the idea of a container with two barb connectors on it that can...

DIY project - drain tank for ice maker

I have an Opal ice maker. Part of the maintenance is running a diluted bleach solution through it and rising it a few times. Today, I have to move the 40lb device near the sink so the relatively short drain tubes will have place to drain to. These tubes are 1/4” in. ID and 3/8” in. OD. I saw...

    Algae in drain line

Thanks for the reply. I'll contact the installer to remedy the situation.

    Algae in drain line

The drain line from my softener and chloramine reduction tanks has algae in it. I’m guessing it is from the lack of chlorine and the fact the line is clear which allows light in. Is this an issue I should be concerned about? Should I bypass the chloramine and regenerate the softener? Thanks!

    Spotless resin?

Reviving this. I found a place to buy DI mixed bed resin on the web. Pic appears to match what I use currently (tan granular stuff non color changing) http://www.buckeyehydro.com/mixed-bed-di-resin/ I have 2 20”x4.5” cartridges in my spotless system. Any guess as to how many pounds I’d need...

    Spotless resin?

Not exactly softener related but I couldn't find any other appropriate forum here. I have a mobile spotless system that I bought years ago from Costco.com for washing cars and power washing house windows. They have since discontinued the resin from their website (and the system) and the only...

    Corrosion on cold inlet

Thanks. We did #2. AO Smith sent a replacement nipple, but the nipple in my WH has the dip tube attached to it. AO states their drawings for the WH show the dip tube sits in the top of the tank and the nipple screws in, but it’s definitely one piece. No galvanized stuff. House is PEX.

    Corrosion on cold inlet

The SS piece is new and I assume yes, but would have to remove to check. Good call.
