    SDR 35 and Potable Water

Kinda what I was thinking. But with rain catchment becoming very popular in my area, a lot of 4" Sched 40 PVC is being buried in areas not subject to any vehicle traffic and the price difference between that and 4" SDR 35 is dramatic. Wondering why no upstart manufacturer has taken the...

    SDR 35 and Potable Water

I understand that, Jeff, what I'm looking for is a why. "Just isn't approved" doesn't tell me what I need to know.

    SDR 35 and Potable Water

Can someone tell me why my rain catchment contractor says Sched 40 PVC pipe is suitable for underground rainwater catchment but SDR 35 PVC pipe is not? Not a matter of strength after burial, something technical about the pipe itself.

    Concealed Gas Union

Yep, me too. You'd think plumbing would be more standard, though, eh? CX

    Concealed Gas Union

I sure understand the concern, hj, but I've always been required to take it apart until a union could be installed in an attic or crawl space or such. Yep, big PITA for sure. 'Specially irksome when you gotta take it apart alla way to the incoming when it's just been installed in new...

    Concealed Gas Union

It's always been my practice to use the galvanized pipe when the lines were exposed to the weather, Hi. Don't know that I've ever seen it in a code book one way or the other, though. Also, the use of the left/right coupling seems to be one of the joining methods specifically proscribed in...

    Concealed Gas Union

Thanks, Winslow. It's now been pointed out to me over yonder as follows: Yeah, Tool, we started using galvanized fittings with the black iron pipe down this way (South Texas) years ago for the same reason. Real PITA to get a whole house plumbed and have the gas lines fail leak test because...

    Concealed Gas Union

Ah, the flaking galvanizing somehow sounds familiar now. Is that actually in the code, or just something we're s'posta know? Yeah, well I would certainly have expected his plumber to know about the concealed union, too, but.... I just hate to be the one to tell him he's gotta tear out his...

    Concealed Gas Union

Thanks, y'all. :) Toolaholic: I thought the left/right couplings were in the same category as unions and compression fittings and such when it came to concealed gas fittings. Not so? Cass: Someone else mentioned the galvanized pipe to me. My plumber has always told me we could use...

    Concealed Gas Union

Well, I tried to find this in y'all's archives, but you can't do a search for "gas" or "LP" or "natural gas" on here, so I struck out. The question is, can a union in a gas line be permanently concealed in a wall cavity? As in this photo in a thread over to the Tile Your World forum...

    Shower Drain P-trap Depth?

C'mon, one of you sure-nuff plumbers, help this fella out, wouldja? He's a good and valued member of the John Bridge Tile Your World forums and is really needin' to get to work on his tile if he can get this nasty hole covered up. Or y'all can come look at his thread here and post your...

Inspection/licensing for working on own house

Don't think I can sign on to that theory, Al. The Independent Republic of Texas was run entirely by Democrats for about a gazillion years until just recently. Permit rules are very lax here compared to many other states, and have been so forever, best I can tell. Bubba just don't like to be...

Inspection/licensing for working on own house

How 'bout the Coconut State? Isn't the People's Republic of Massachusetts one of them places still likes to use lead and copper shower pans, too? But that's not why I called. Please to settle discussion from over yonder to the Tile Your World forums: Is the homeowner allowed...

    Instant Water Heaters

Once again, thanks all for the information. :) No final decision at this point. I may have swayed them a little by tellin' them I could install three 50 gal electric tank heaters for less than it will cost for one tankless model in this situation (especially with the new gas line), and that...

    Ideal Water Pressure

All my customers are on private wells and I set all the pressure switches at 40/60. Seems to make them all happy. My opinion; worth price charged.
