I've insulated my boiler lines with the grey foam insulating tubes from Home Depot. (1/2", 3'4", and 1" lines.) They've been there, unmelted, for nearly 15 years. The temp of those lines never gets above 180, even those coming right out of the boiler.

Come spring, consider replacing the expansion tank with a bladder type (i.e. Extrol) tank. These are a lot less hassle in the long run.

Something to consider since you live in the great frozen north: if something on an HE boiler fails it could be days before the part can be obtained and the boiler returned to service. Also, replacing one of these parts can negate all the savings gained from the higher efficiency for a long tme...
