    Question about banging pipes

Thank you, Jeff! I went down and opened the valve a little more... problem seems to have resolved. I definitely plan to get it replaced!

    Question about banging pipes

We're on a well. We had some simple plumbing work done recently and when we went to shut off the house water, the main shutoff valve (gate valve) did not work. We ran the water for 15 minutes and it never slowed. We ended up having to cut the power to the well. Fast forward a week ... water has...

    Pipes Behind Tongue-and-Groove Paneling

Thanks, Eman85, that's actually a great tip, I didn't think about replumbing just that part with copper. That would keep it from happening again!

    Pipes Behind Tongue-and-Groove Paneling

Behind the lovely pine paneling you see below is a fiberglass tub surround with a broken-off tub spout. (Incidentally, we have two tubs in this house and this has happened to BOTH of them - each spout literally just fell off into our hands when pulling up the diverter). We have CPVC pipes and...

    Replacing shutoff valve on CPVC

Thank you Terry, very helpful! Appreciate everyone's assistance here.

    Replacing shutoff valve on CPVC

I know, that's what confused me too. I took a pic of another toilet valve in the house with the same thing but a much longer stub-out. It appears to be some sort of metal adapter glued to the PVC. Oddly, the nut and "adapter" or whatever seem to be one piece. So thinking I'd apply the force to...

    Replacing shutoff valve on CPVC

Just had a thought, is that an adapter of some sort behind the nut on the valve?

    Replacing shutoff valve on CPVC

SteveW, I know for a fact it's CPVC back there, the whole house is plumbed with it!

    Replacing shutoff valve on CPVC

Hi all! How would I go about replacing a shutoff valve for a toilet when I have CPVC pipe in the wall? I did my homework, watched a bunch of YouTube videos, and I see how these valves come off. But what if the joint is glued? All other visible shutoff valves in the house have the telltale orange...

Faucet failed after 3 months? Is this common?

Update! The aerator, which I had taken off at the time to clean it out, had to be tightened. A LOT. Way more than I have ever had to tighten any aerator before. Noted for next time. Thanks to this thread for turning on the lightbulb in my head.

Faucet failed after 3 months? Is this common?

I replaced a bathroom sink faucet a few months ago. I bought a low-end Glacier Bay faucet from Home Depot (I know, I know, but we're planning to remodel this bathroom eventually and I needed a quick fix!). Installation went smoothly and things were just fine until last weekend when I discovered...

How do I avoid breaking old CPVC?

    Thank you Terry! Good tip.

How do I avoid breaking old CPVC?

Thank you for your reply, John. Thinking about those pipes does keep me awake nights! Sometimes I feel like it's a big ticking bomb. Maybe you're right, I should let the faucet go for the time being and expend more energy planning for the overhaul. It's just really annoying to live with broken...

How do I avoid breaking old CPVC?

We live in a house built 23 years ago by the original owner. The indoor plumbing is all CPVC. When we try to replace old leaking fixtures, more often than not, the pipe snaps off. In addition, the CPVC seemed to not be able to take the daily jostling of lifting a tub spout diverter, and one day...
