I have two homes on one well and one pressure tank. Each home has its own whole house filter Just ahead of their respective water softeners. The pressure tank is being assaulted by the extreme iron level in the well water. I want to put a filter in front of the pressure tank to reduce the amount of iron sediment and extend the life of the pressure tank.
When I installed the filter in front of the pressure tank the second home loses pressure because that filter does not allow water to flow backwards from the tank to the other house.
My plan is to install a check valve that would allow water to flow backwards from the pressure tank to the second home.

Any problems with this solution?

No problem with a check valve to bypass the filter. The problem will be when that filter clogs and the pressure switch cannot shut the pump off before it melts down and is destroyed.

THAT! is a fair and valuable point of concern. However, without a check valve the same could occur, correct?
In 14yrs, neither home's sediment filters have clogged anywhere close to full stop.
That said, in past 14yrs the fiberglass pressure tank did accumulate enough iron to cause bladder failure twice!
