I just found these instructions on a Ehow website. Could folks confirm if they are "backasswards".
I thought the adjustments were just the opposite on the smaller post

Step 3
Turn the nut counterclockwise with a nut driver to reduce the total range of pressure provided by the regulator.

Step 4
Locate the small nut and spring on the regulator. Turn the nut clockwise with a nut driver to reduce the difference between the "cut in" and "cut out" pressures.

Step 5
Turn the nut counterclockwise to increase the difference.

Let me make it easy for you. Don't mess with the small adjustment screw. The small screw only adjust the differential, and it you leave it alone the differential will stay about 20 PSI. Just tighten the large adjustment screw one full turn for each 3 PSI you want to increase the pressure or loosen it to lower the pressure. Throw those other instructions away, they are just confusing.

Steps 4 and 5 are backwards.

To raise or lower the cut-in and cut-out settings while keeping the
differential between those two settings constant, adjust the range
nut. The range nut is the 3/8-inch nut that adjusts the larger of
the two springs in Models FSG, FYG, FRG, and Type G Pumptrol
switches.
Turn the range nut clockwise to increase the cut-in pressure and
counter-clockwise to lower the cut-in pressure. Three and a half
revolutions of the range nut will change both the cut-in and
cut-out settings by approximately 10 psi.
Adjust the differential nut if you want to raise or lower the
cut-out setting while keeping the cut-in pressure constant. The
differential nut is the 3/8-inch nut that adjusts the smaller of
the two springs in Models FSG, FYG, FRG, and Type G switches. Turn
the differential nut clockwise to increase the cut-out pressure and
counter-clockwise to lower the cut-out pressure. Adjusting the
differential nut will change only the cut-out setting while the
cut-in setting remains unchanged.
I think it is common that you cannot
adjust the differential too much, if any, lower than the 20 PSI differential
that the switch comes pre-set to. You can widen it.​

Step 3 is ambiguous, since it did not specify which nut. "total range" is a bit arcane-- a beginner would not necessarily assume that was not describing the differential.

Step 4 is not only backwards on the CCW/CW, it also refers to the smaller nut. The nuts are both 3/8 on my pressure switch.

Just a follow-up for closure ....... Today I noted the switch shut off was above the 60 psi mark and seemed to be climbing over time when it cycled ........... So .... I decided to go ahead and change out the pressure switch. Took about an hour and our pressure settings are restored to the 30/50 we've had for the last 40 years. I had the switch on hand because I'm putting together an all new assembly on the new medium sized 30 gal heater in the garage for installation next spring. Also new pressure tank with all new fittings.
