1929 Kolher Toilet

How do you hang a 1929 Kohler Toilet tank to the wall? Does there need to be a stud in the wall to bolt to?
Does the tank hang flush to the wall or is a spacer of some sort needed?
Brass Bolts or Stainless Steel Bolts?

Mounted to the wall with either brass or stainless.
Then the chrome elbow makes up the difference between the tank and the bowl. Normally these were set on a 14" rough-in.

Except that yours connects from the top of the bowl so matching that up may need some sort of shimming at the wall to make it work. Have you dry set the bowl on the flange to see what you will be working with?

I would make sure there is backing in the wall for that.

Nobody roughs at 14" anymore though. Standard rough is at 12" from the wall. What do you have for a rough-in measurement?

Approx measurements:

Overall when set up- 39 1/2"tall x 23 1/2"wide x 26 1/2"depth

The waste outlet is 3 3/4" outside diameter,

The rough in will - 13 1/2"

Seat mounts are 5 1/2"apart on center

14 7/8"tall from floor to rim of the bowl

See pic below. To attach the tank to the bowl is not an elbow - it appears / is a straight connection.

Yes, you need solid blocking in the wall.
There are threaded studs that we normally use for a variety of old style toilet mounting, they are solid brass and typically 1/4" or 5/16", depending on what you can get your hands on. bigger would be preferable.
Be aware that with old toilets like this, the trapway inside will have mineral scale build up causing very poor flushing that will get worse over time.
We refuse to touch these old beasts at all any more, under any circumstances.
I do not recommend going further because they waste water and perform poorly. AND they are illegal to install anywhere where water is scarce.

Doesn't Dallas have plenty of water? Okay, maybe they don't, and since the old toilets always had plungers sitting by them and the new ones don't need plungers, it could get interesting.
It has always been a huge improvement in flushing when I've taken out old toilets like that.

I can definately understand some one wanting to keep these fixtures in service for decades more. (performance might not be great though) I love seeing old homes with old fixtures and tile work . I dont think the socialists really care what anyone wants , its unfair to waste water no matter how much there is and we get penalized using more than our "share" for using more than a tiny amount the size of our property makes no differance We have about a half acre and we get same alotment as a 4000 sq ft lot .
