Hello all, I recently decided to change my laundry room sink, in doing so I found this AAV and backflow. the rise on the washer drain is too short.

I have a main always closed backflow but I'm still concerned about the AAV....does it stop water in the case of a back up? The AAV should not be so low, would it cause any problems if I raised it to about 5 feet or put it right up into the joists? I also have my main plumbing stack about 8 feet away I am starting to think I should just vent into the main.

Some clarification would be greatly appreciated on this matter.

Thank you.

I would be more concerned about the always closed backflow valve, although since it is just handling laundry, it might not get stuck open, as the whole-house flapper valves usually do.

While it should stop the backflow, raising it would be superior. I think

You are not allowed to use the plumbing stack that is carrying drainage as a vent.

The AAV has NOTHING to do with stopping backflows and it makes very little difference how high it is, other than possibly accumulating debris from the water.
