Normal Operation of Grundfos CU301 controller?

First time poster, and sorry if this has be asked before. I just had a new well drilled and they installed a constant pressure system with the Grundfos CU301 controller. I have no idea the actual pump installed. My question is, the unit is set at 60psi, when opening just one or two faucets, the pressure will slowly drop to around 50 then go up to 60. When doing things like watering the yard from a couple of hoses, the system runs at a constant 60 psi. Also when the pump shuts off the pressure peaks to around 65-67 psi and stays there until water is turned on again. My installer said this was normal, but just wanted to make sure. I have double checked the air tank and it is set at 70% of the 60psi. Thanks for any input.

Sounds like they made another change to the CU301. It use to only drop a couple of pounds before the pump came on, then shut off at 60 when no flow is being used. The wider bandwidth will allow you to use a little water from that small tank before the pump comes on. This is highly preferable to the pump coming on the instant you open a faucet, but I don't think it will make the CU301 system any more dependable.

Here are a few links to problems others have had with that system. We replace a LOT of them with Cycle Stop Valves after the homeowner gets tired of being out of water and of having to purchase several of those CU301 controllers in a short time.

thanks valveman. Yeah been reading up on the Cycle Shop Valves. Actually the CU301 unit failed within a month and the pump built up pressure until the pressure valve blew. Just glad I had a water alarm and sump pump. Said there was a recall and unit was replaced. We'll see what happens. Actually ran hose for pressure valve to sump just in case it happens again. If it fails again, I think the CSV will be the way to go. Thanks again.

The last I heard those CU301/SQE type systems were in "generation nine". That means they have been "recalled" at least 9 times since 1999 when they first came on the market. The reason they were put on the market to start with, was to compete with the constant pressure control of a CSV, introduced in 1993, without shooting the pump companies planned obsolescence in the foot and make pumps last longer like a CSV does.
