Honeydew project: Moving vent to re-opening door frame.

Good morning, I'm trying to finish a toliet install in the garage that my dad

was unable to finish.

To help explain what I want to do, I've included a photo of where the toliet will be,

where the vent will be, and where the waste pipe is.

waste pipe is.

History: The vertical vent pipe was at the wall where an old door frame is located.

The vertical vent pipe connected directly to the waste pipe with a santee and 90 degree

turn into the 3" waste pipe.End of history.

Now the vent pipe is being moved to the left of the door frame

so we can re-install a door.

Question #1. Can I run the 3" pipe from the toliet directly(left to right in the photo)

to the waste pipe with a santee or long turn tee wye HxHxH to run to the vent?

Question #2. Or do I need to run the pipe directly to the vent pipe area,

(use santee or any tee?) then turn toward the waste pipe?

Question #3. Are both or any of these scenarios above up to code?

Question#4. All I can find is a HxH 90 for the toliet/toliet flange connection.

Is this ok? The 3" flange I have fits into the HxH 90.

I get different answers from HomeDepot personnel and it is hard to find the right
plumbing codes, let alone decrypt them.

Thanks for this forum and for reading my situation. Victor.

The keep the vent from being flat, I would wye in closer to the wall, maybe even behind it, using a wye fitting, not a san tee, and keep the wye fitting for the vent vertical. After the wye, you can 90 back for the toilet.

Hi Terry, thanks for looking at posts on the weekend! I understand to keep the vent vertical.

I can not go behind the wall. Question--Can I put the wye like shown in the next photo.....or is it

considered a flat vent? Victor.

You can't use a vent fitting below the flood level.
Is there a lav nearby? You would be allowed to wet vent the toilet with the lav.
They used to let me roll a wye fitting above the flowline of the pipe for the vent. That would be better than what you have.

Hi Terry,

So, if I understand correctly, the wye vertical is the way to go, so the vent is just above

the flood level.

I'll take your advise and put the wye vertical to keep it above the flood level.

No lav nearby. Just a toliet that my dad wants in the garage(part of his man cave I guess.)

I was trying to save energy by not having to chip away at what looks like the edge

of 8 inches of foundation concrete.

Thanks for the timely responses and sharing your knowledge and expertise

with me and others. Victor.

Most places (all that I know of) require a place to wash your hands nearby if you have a toilet.

Hi, there is a wash basin next to the laundry machine and it is a good 12 feet away. Dad is 94 and says
he doesn't wash his hands much anymore--he jokes "Have you ever seen a germ?" When he needs help up,
I grab him by the forearm nowadays.

As long as dad gets his side garage door back un-obstructed from the vent, he says he'll live with the vent (functional but not in the best spot). I hope I live til 94. Victor.
