Some people have no common sense
I can almost see that hook-up
IF the drain pipe was above the washer
Putting it down near the floor makes NO sense whatsoever
And the direction of the flow is just going to push it down into the sump pump pit
Then the sump pump will kick on & push it right back
No thought process there
But a nice drawing :D

A a co-worker of mine always says, "Common sense is not that common any more" :)

Here is another video know it all with a video showing how to install a faucet.
I couldn't watch the whole thing as This was posted on another forum with someone interupting the help I was giving someone... It seems as though the person I was helping noticed an upside down mack washer on the pop-up assy in the video...

We'll call it a pig slop grohe installation...

Oh boy I guess I made friends there...
Seems the handyguy posting the video was one of the guys who made the video...
Shucks...

Redwood, you can not believe how bad I want to post on that forum.. It is probably a good thing they banned me. I really got a feeling the ban had to do with me knocking bad hack advice they are giving there.

Redwood - Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have made note of this error on our page with the video. http://www.handyguyspodcast.com/313/episode-52-faucet-installations as well as on the vid hosting site.

Constructive criticism and feedback is always welcome.

Brian

WOW! Gotta give these guys credit for owning up to the mistake and learning from it! I'd think most people would just get mad at the plumbers, ignore them, etc. Coming here to state what you did says a lot! I hope they take Redwood up on his offer to review videos before posting in the future. That certainly will help credibility!

You have to still admit that some of the advice given at that site-is gawd awfull. Like the guy with the the busted shower/bath drain that wants to use a pump to drain his tub, instead of repairing it. One of the advice givers tells him he could siphon the tub into his water closet and the Moderator tells him what kind of pump to get

I watched the Vimeo of the Grohe faucet install. Handy Hacks. Good grief.

You NEVER use putty on a plastic top. Never.

Teflon on the drain part? Is that all that seals it? Shouldn't need it on a running thread.

Pipe dope on the hose connection? Hope it doesn't eat the rubber that actually makes the seal. Completely unnecessary.

Yes, the mack washer inverted. Too bad the faucet didn't have more parts so they could screw those up, too.

Edited to add: BTW, why a widespread faucet on a 4" center basin?

Pig slop or jsut something I have never seen before????

Found this in a basement today...
I guess that they were too lazy just to tear up
the floor and install a sewage pit.

this is extremely nasty in my opinion

I have never seen anything like this little basement
set up before....seems to be a grinder pump pumping the sewage
out the front of the home to the sewer....

The pump had failed and the container has turned into
something similar to a funkey cesspool or septic tank inside the home..
.............nice smelling too......................

the home-owner is fighting the fellow who installed
the pump over the warranty right now,

but I fear and dread that I am gonna be the poor
dummie fooling with this little turd sometime soon...

is this just basically a glorified trash can turned into a sewage receptor
or is this a for real product used by many???
That top just snaps on and has no real tight seal what-so ever

Things look to be moveing in that gruel in picture #2 LOL

pig slop or not????? your opinion please...

fear and dread in Indianapolis......

Kords...also a bathroom in basement

No other posts, hmmmmm I guess this thread has
been laying dormant for way too long......
or everyone is on vacation this month......

it does sort of make you want to hurl....

they wont be able to sell the house with
this piece of junk inthe basement...

it has also occured to me...

they have a bathroom in the basement too!!!!

the downstairs bathroom must go to that
open sump pump pit next to the box and then pump
up and then into the sewage bin....

It aint ever gonna pass inspection when they try to sell this
home and it is presently on the market...

My next question

What is it worth to tear up the whole basement and install
a large sewage pit and pump ,
tie in the downstairs bathroom to it
and basically cleanup this whole mess....????

I wont touch it for less than 10k...no, make that 15.....

fear and dread in Indianapolis continues

pig slop or art work???

this artwork installed by some handy that is actually on angies list .
some sort of handy man service..

I call this "old faithful" cause every time the laundry shoots down that floor drain, the drain probably wont be able take the load on it and it will blow up through the condensation trap on the furnace and will spew out and hit the cieling...

well....maybe not as high as the ceiling, but it will be a pretty sight to see

or it will push water back up into the drain line on the culligan unit
which is an illegal cross connection.....
this guy really worked hard on this.....:D:D:D

The dishwasher drain doesn't require an air gap here. It does, however, require a high loop and I fastened it to the bottom of the counter.

The reason I got the service call is because hubby is gone, the sheets are split, and the lady was trying to plunge the sink. She had filled the sink with dishwashing compound and then tried to plunge and the two corrugated pipes burst apart. Would have been fun to watch her scrambling to clean it up.

I should have taken a pic of the fix - basically hard piping the vent and using a disposer waste into a single trap. Unfortunately, the pipe going down still remains 1-1/2" but that's under concrete floor. I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but the drain comes up through the cabinet about a foot from the back wall.
