didnt know you still could use ABS

that one is pretty , but it does not show

true adaptability ...throwing different materials

and things together to make "plumbing artwork".....

actually I have probably seen worse done by real
plumbers......

it looks like it will work, ......more or less...

it looks to be vented properly, .....more or less...

lots of kinks and bends, but its functional..

a good example of the use of 22 degree fittings..
I count 5........I suppose its ok.........

I did not think you could even buy black abs anymore...

it was outlawed here long ago cause it burns like a log.

I have a good one that I must go back out to the
house and get a pic of........next time I am in that area.

how's this shower addition

hello, this layout was the original plumbing that came with the house 35 years ago, the only difference is that I extended the pipes 18" and add a wye for the new shower. What would a master plumber do differently.

thanks
Frank

Avoid a job like that.

I see quite a number of problems. First of all, you can't just stick another drain into a horizontal vent. Secondly, you're using the vent for the shower as a line vent rather than a fixture vent. Thirdly, it's a drain cleaner's nightmare to be going around in circles like that. If the closet backs up into the vent, you don't have a decent cleanout to clear it. Although that isn't required (by our code) on the second floor of a building, it would be something I'd insist on. Fourthly, it just looks bad. Fifthly, it would have been far easier (for me, anyway) to have the walls framed in place rather than trying to notch them around the pipes.

I'm not a plumber, but here in AZ I think it's still widely used, I know that's what I plumbed my house with 10 years ago, and I THINK that was all that was legal.

Maybe HJ can chime in here since he's somewhere in this State.

So what do you use that doesn't burn?

It looks to be vented ok.....

you added a wye for the shower.....
the shower is on a wet vent ---vented with the lavatotry. basically it will be ok.....

the vents seem to be going back to the main stack

it looks to be high enough to be above the flood rim of the
vanity....

I dont know what that other pipe is comming up through the floor, I guess it is a re-vent from somethign downstairs...

its probably never stopped up in 35 years .....

probably will be ok for another 35 years even with all the bends....

unless your wife has long , long hair
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

in our state ABS has been outlawed because it burns like a log when it catches fire.....

the PVC simply smoulders..... both are very toxic ...but they felt that the PVC was better for that reason.....so they banned useing abs way back in the 70s

I think that whey will both last about 400 years out of
sunlight....

re:basically it will work

thanks for the advice Mark. I'm happy there isn't anything seriously wrong.
yes the horizontal vent pipe will be over 6" above the vanity rim, you are also correct about the middle pipe ,it's the vent line for a vanity on the lower floor.

Fernco and duct tape mastery

Just had to take a pic of this one........

the plumbing still works, and the homeowner
slapped this together himself.....

I was there for other reasons.

notice the combinations of fernco, duct tape, sadddle clamp and 4 inch tee going backwards..

anything can be done with duct tape and Fernco fittings by a true master..

in pic #1 notice the white sock tied around a
leaking cpvc pipe above the cast

Wow. I think that's the winner so far. I also noticed some mortar, or maybe dirt, and some caulk holding it together. Where did you find that mess?

MPM...when you say you are in Hillbilly heaven you were right!!!!!!!

Just FYI...there is a new stronger exterior grade duct tape available now that may extend the length of time DIY repairs will last.

Gorilla Tape is too expensive

The brand you are talking about is
GORILLA TAPE........about 4 times the
price of duct tape...

your average hillbilly around here does not
have the extra money for it.......

basicallly that would be just good beer money being pissed
away on plumbing repairs ....
-----------------------------------------------------------------

This one stopped me in my tracks last month,

both me and my father stopped what we were doing
to simply

...... gaze at the beauty of it .......

Now thats some pretty good lookin pig slop! The only thing I think could have made it better would be if the fernco couplings were all misaligned by an 1 1/2".... That would have been over the top!

nice electrical work and tile work too

This pic is from my camera phone. it does not take too good a shot..
......the electrical line to this water heater
goes about 8 feet across the floor over to the breaker box......it hangs about a foot of the floor...

notice the quality pex lines on top

This is how you install a Sterling tub without the walls if you ever want to do that

Here in the same house they decided to install a STERLING tub, that was supposed to
have the walls with it..... they tiled down to the ridges where the walls were supposed to tie in at

they must have got this base at a garage sale ......... I guess a lot of silicone will fill that gap up ok

I am sorry that these pictures are not that good of quality, from my camera phone...

did not have my good camera with me that day......

I got home court advantage.......

I am beginning to realize that Indiana must
be ground zero for half assed plumbing workmanship....

I keep running into stuff that I just got to document...
notice the fernco tee that is sagging and warped going out
of this 5 bathroom home......

its something to be proud of

This is a pic from my seesnake in a cleanout. The city had filled his cleanout with concrete instead of using a lid and then broke it up at a later date. The chunks of crete fell into his causing even more grief when I snaked his line.

Not sure if qualifies but is definently a nasty drain job. The 1st pic is 50 years of old-man-coffee-drinking-piss-buildup. The second is how the line looked when I got done.
