Shut off valve for outdoor spigot

Whenever I turn on the shut off valve for the outside spigots, it leaks from the shut off valve. I have only just turned on the front valve and there is a fast drip coming from it. It drips from the valve "axel" where it enters the fixture. How do I prevent this dripping leak. Thanks.
