Your 4" santee is a 4" santee, but your 4" stack isn't a 4" stack. 3" c.i. is about 3.4" OD and 4" c.i. is about 4.4" OD. This varies slightly based on weight, hub vs. no-hub, manufacturer, etc., but only slightly. I've never seen or heard of 3-1/2" cast iron, but it sounds like your builder managed to find some. Go to your local supply house and ask the oldest guy there about your stack--your house can't be the only one with this stuff in it, so someone must have already figured out a solution. Good luck.
