I am upsizing the pipe to 2". : Thanks! : Mike Hey Mike, a shower needs a 2" trap BUT depending on job conditions it is not always possible or practicable to place said trap directly under the shower. Check with the local inspector as I have on one occasion placed a double vented 2" running trap with in 24" of the fixture and the trap was located with in two feet of a vented line. Using a double vented ACCESSIBLE running trap you have a cleanout and a legal hook up for a vent as you not near the crown weir of the trap .Ask the local inspector.
