: Has anyone had any problems with Americast tubs? Would you recommend a good acrylic/fiberglas tub over Americast? An installer told me he has seen a few of the hundreds he has installed, collapse after 3-4 years. He now only will install acrylic/fiberglas with mortar bedding.

: He also told me that there is no way to repair a chipped Americast tub that is off-white. Is this true? Are these tubs easy to chip?

: Thanks for your help!!

IMO you cannot beat a cast iron fixture. They basically last a lifetime. Americast is lighter, easier to handle and less expensive than cast iron but you get what you pay for. Many people actually consider it "a replacement for cast iron". Never happen.
I have seen some Americast kitchen sinks that are only a couple of years old that are beat up pretty bad. My 15 year old cast iron Kohler kitchen sink takes a beating and still looks new.
