In response to Re: Help , Sylvan I have a question
: There are MANY types of brass compounds. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, with small amounts of other metals added (tin, lead, aluminum, iron, manganese, nickel). There are two broad categories of brass: alpha brasses have a copper content above 65%; beta brasses have copper content of 65% or less.

Red brass is 85%Cu, 15%Zn

Yellow brass is 65% Cu, 35%Zn

The other metals are added in minute quantities.

The content of copper, as well as the other metals, affects the metal's resistance to corrosion, hardness, machineability, strength, etc.

Other specific alloys commonly encountered are Muntz metal, cartridge brass, Navy brass, etc.
