It is probably "frozen" with rust. Yours probably has a cast iron grinding plate and perimeter. If it is not used fairly often to "knock" the rust off, it will build up and then join the two pieces into a blob of rust, which nothing will cure, and even if you could it would be a very noisy disposer. Replace it with one that has a stainless steel plate and grind ring so it will not corrode.
When we travel for an extended period of time, we always return to a "frozen" garbage disposal. There is not a place for a wrench on our vacation home's disposal. We have tried hot water, WD40, etc. Any suggestions?
