leak on the top of the hot water tank

Hi,

I am in the process of swapping out my old hot water tank for a new Rheem 40gal Electric unit. I get a very small leak around the hot out connection. I am using a 3/4 to 1/2 brass thread and no matter how many times I re-wrap it with teflon tape the small leak won't stop. The cold line in and the pressure relaif are fine. Is there any thread sealing compound I can use or something else.
