installing shower base, drain has fixture leaded to it

I am in the process of installing a new shower base, pre fab in my basement bathroom. The old one was made of concrete, tore that out and I am left with the drain pipe with the old drain fitting "leaded" to it. This sticks out of the concrete four inches or so. I need to get the old fitting off, but I am not sure how to do so with the lead situation? How does a person loosen lead? What are my other options? I plan on building a base made of wood to put the pre fab base on. Need suggestions, please help. Is it time to call the plumber?
