The fittings stocked by the Big Box Stores seem to me to be just fine for the common pieces and sizes used in homes. However, if you need something out of the ordinary, best go to a supply house. For example, recently I needed to replace a 1" stop and waste that is buried 5' underground. The local box stores don't even try to have that sort of thing in stock, but the supply house had a selection. If you are a professional, it would seem to me that the discount you would get at the supply houses would make that the best place for you to get you fittings.
