In response to Re: Vertical move of drainpipe for pedestal?
: Wanting to install a new pedestal lav, but the trap is too low for the opening in the pedestal. I put in a new super-short drainpipe as well as a short trap (with the first curve about 2.5 in. from the wall, but the pedestal still hits the lower part of the trap preventing the basin from contacting the wall by about 1.25 in.

: Should I knock out a chunk of drywall and attempt to move the (galvanized) drainpipe up by about 3 in., or should I construct some sort of wooden mounting block/backsplash to fill the gap between the back of the basin and the wall?

Opening the wall is a lot of work but it can be done to raise the fitting. Have you considered buying a different style pedestal that has a completely open back? Blocking out the rear of the basin would be unsightly.
