Been doing this for years ALSO a shop vac is great from removing rings etcfrom traps with out opening the CO.

Just hold a rag over the over flow and suck away


Get a Sears Wet Dry 6HP great also for main house traps.

I bought a sear Wet Dry used it to suck out trocks out of a deep running trap 6 feet below grade.
