Mike, The lead should connect to cast iron pipe with a hub. The lead can be drilled out and then pried out with a screwdriver. A rubber tyseal, or even fernco makes an inside seal that allows a taperered end pipe to slide into the fitting. A little bit of liquid soap will lube it. From there you go with solvent weld plastic fittings.
