Installing new cast iron tub (Kohler Villager)

I am moving at the pace of a snail, uphill. It is getting time to put the tub in. One of the books I have suggests covering the floor under the tub with thinset. I don't see any mention of that in the Kohler Villager tub installation guide. Is there a reason for the thinset? Also it calls for metal shims, where do I get those? One last thing. I bought a 2" PVC trap, but looking at the install guide it looks like they suggest a threaded trap like on my kitchen sink...which would make sense for easy clean out or replacement. Should I bag my glue in place trap? thanks, rob
