Shower drain leak.

I have a shower stall - fibreglas unit - in our second floor bedroom ensuite, installed by contractor 20 years ago. There is now leakage through the gyproc ceiling in the laundry room below. I have applied silicone to the upper inside of the drain as far as I can go and around the edge of the fitting on top. This temporarily stopped it. I have removed the ceiling below, and see water dripping from the ABS drain pipe, but cannot locate the leak. What do you recommend as a way to find the leak? Should I take out the ABS and replace, or just try to apply cement to the joints?
