Do what you can to drain the water away before it gets to the house (ditches, drains, swales, berms, whatever). Make sure your roof runoff isn't making it worse (big clean gutters with collector drains that empty well downhill from the house). Do what you can to get the water that does get to the house into a sump (french drains, under-slab tiles, weep drains) and pump it out (sump pumps and battery backup sump pumps). It sounds like you are doing it right. I'd look for more ways to channel the water away from the house in the first place, but in gravel the water moves around in a hurry--you're going to want deep sumps with big pumps to stay on top of it.
