A gravity circulating system will only work if the water can move in a constant upward path from the water heater to the end of the system, and then drop down with a constant grade back to the water heater. Therefore the heater has to be lower than the hot water piping, and there can be no "up and down" grade changes in the piping.
: :I understand the plumbing is in the basement; my only question , again due to lack of familiarity, might the water heater be up inside the house proper; or is it just automatic that the heater is also in the basement. Just curious.
