: A maximum 50 %notch in one stud will NOT create any problem. Only notch in halfway (max).. The wall being attached to this stud will help this stud avoid any deflection. Hube


I guess I should have mentioned, originally, that this is an existing structure. The house is about 30 years old, so all attachments (i.e., plywood, bricks, etc) have been in place for a long time. I take it this makes the 50% issue even less of an issue?
