: Hi Deb, I have an 1890's vict house, remodeled upper full bath here's the question. My claw foot tub makes all kinds of noise when the water is let out, it drains fast and furious!, the water stays in the trap, I was told before on this board it was supposed to do that, are they wrong, its a questionable 5 feet to the vent, had to put it kinda centered within room....thanks in advance...

We often find that "in the real world" things that are a little beyond code specifications actually do work just fine. If it drains and if the trap is holding its trap seal, I would say that you are fine. I run into incredibly creative plumbing quite a bit. There are some things that I am amazed work as they should given the creative install. I am a big believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I find it interesting that the IPC allows things that the UPC does not. I believe that under IPC, that trap arm would be within legal limits.
