Sump pump drainage

I have a new sump pump installed and the pipe is going outside on to the lawn in the backyard. It is about 1 1/2 feet away from the house. I want to make it go out further by digging a hole in the lawn and running the black PVC pipe. Anything I need to do other than that? any good webiste or book that can tell me what I need to do? I live in Michigan and it gets a bit cold and snow so how deep does it need to be? Thank you.
