: hole then normal to put in one of these toilets?

No, Most toilets on the market today will flush a lot of golf balls.
Trapways on most of these toilets are in the 2+" range. The plumbing at the floor is 3" or 4".
A golf ball is rather small.
One of the highest performing toilets, is the Toto Drake, moving 900 grams of solids, While the Champion came in at 500 grams.
If the Champion tank has been leaking down, then it may move most of the solids, but leave the floating paper behind.
The Toto Drake moves everything.
