In response to Re: Gas Hot Water Heater
: My gas hot water heater is making noises that sound like its clicking Is this probably the same noise as the popping that is said to be caused from sediment at the bottom of tank? Is flushing one out something a home owner that is handy should try?
: Thanks,

Shut the water feed and gas to the water heater. Hook up a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the WH, drain the tank. Open the cold feed to the WH and flush it out through the drain valve until the water is running clear. Refill the WH and relight the pilot. If the popping/crackling sounds persist and the WH is old, replacement should be considered. You should be able obtain an estimate over the phone for a standard installation.
Good Luck. e-plumber
