Parts are available and they are expensive. The seat is a special one and it is VERY expensive. The Vent-A-Way feature works by pulling the handle out. It will continue to vent until you push the handle back in or flush the toilet the normal way. It is about the best fixture you can get, and that type is no longer made.

: I have an American Standard Vent-Away one piece toilet installed in a pool cabanna room at my home. I will be turning the water on to those rooms as soon as there is no more frost here in Pa. Are there still parts available for the vent away toilet, should I have a problem, and does that set-up take a special seat if it ever needs to be replaced? How does that vent work anyway? Or maybe I should have my plumber install an up to date fixture. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appriciated Thanks in advance for any help. Tom
