: On a Friday, upstairs toilet severly overflowed. Water (clean, no sewage) gushed out, seeped through bedroom floor and into kitchen and damaged kitchen floor all in about 10 minutes. No one touched the toilet. Monday we turn water back on and it seems to be working normally. Plumber can't find anything wrong. What happened and what should we do to prevent a reoccurance?

Reply:
(If no one used the overflowing toilet when this occured)
If there are plumbing fixtures above or around the toilet that overflowed and they were used, it is possible for this to happen if the drain was clogged or restricted downstream of the overflowing toilet.
That's the only logical explanation.
Good Luck. e-plumber
