In response to Re: Water heater price - am I getting hosed?
: Location is Chicago suburbs. Bradford White 40 gal, 6-year warantee, new style safety system to prevent combustion of external vapors. They quoted $822 full install and removal (haul away) of old unit. They told me that the new style required is the reason for the high price. This sounds like a marketing course graduate to me. I agreed because I've not got the time to shop around and the family will get very ornery with no hot water. I just feel like this is way over the top, price-wise. Am I just out of touch?

That price is within reason for an exact replacement under normal conditions, give or take. The new style Bradford White brand water heaters that I have installed did not require a piping change; gas, flue or water lines.
The new style water heaters do cost $100.00 or more than the old units.
Good Luck. e-plumber
