Conventionally, a 20 amp dedicated circuit with a single (round) outlet for the pump is installed.
Use 12-2 w/G for the cable. It must be housed in metal conduit if installed in unfinished basement.

: : I have installed a sewage ejector in my basement. Does it need to be plugged into a GFCI outlet? If the circuit trips and I don't know, I could be in trouble. Thoughts?

: A properly grounded receptacle is required with its' own circut breaker. A GFCI is not required by code but some manufacturers suggest one for "added safety".
