I'm a beginner at plumbing and tried to fix a leaking shower faucet. The brand is kohler (house is about 40 years old). I replaced the stems with new danco hot & cold stems (6N-2H & 6N-2C). Also replaced a #33 o-ring on what I think is called the packing nut. Put it all together and now the faucet leaks much worse! What I found very strange is that there was no seal where the bottom of the step meets what I think is called the seat; the bottom of the stem has a whitish plastic surface. I'm wondering if this is adequate to seal the stem to the seat, or if I should have put any petroleum jelly on this before reassembly. I'd appreciate any advice with this! |
