: Can someone explain step by step on how to prime a water pump. I understand you have to fill the pump with water, but what I don't know how to do is bleed the line( get the air out so the pump can catch). Thanks

On most shallow well pumps, there is a cap or plug on top right on or very near the head. Unscrew and pour water until it is full, replace and try pump. There should be a check valve, (a valve which allows water to go only in one direction, the direction you want it to flow, towards the pump), below the pump on the line to the well. Water will not flow past this check valve and any water you pour in will not drain out. Air will be displaced as you pour water in.
