Somebody told you wrong.
Galvanized pipe is still being sold and actually used in plumbing.
The plastic pipe industry will continue to grow and coleect a loarger market share, but you left out pex which is much easier to install than ridgid plastic with glued joints.
Copper pipe will continue to be used for many years to come on commercial buildings and light industrial.
I would recommend that you sell your buggy whip, but you better keep your plumbin torch a little bit longer.
